Early seating……I love having the same stewards night after night….especially when taking cruises lasting longer than a week or so. Although I may divert to some of the onboard specialty restaurants from time to time (and I always let the dining room stewards know, in person, so they don’t prepare for me), I love the consistentcy, attentiveness and familiarity that inevitably develops between diner and stewards.
I like an ice tea with my dinner….and, by night #2, it will be waiting for me at the dinner table. I love a cup of decaf coffee after dinner….and it will come without even asking by night #2. I like my steaks medium-well….and, all will come perfect, without even asking, after the first night.
And, at the end of each cruise, it is so satisfying to reward these dedicated, hard-working professionals with an envelope containing an appropriate amount of “extra” cash gratuities beyond the automatic gratuities. Their appreciation is priceless. And they remember me, and I them, on subsequent cruises when we meet again! And the world becomes a little smaller and a little friendlier!
