Viking Ocean Cruises Prepares To Launch Second Ship

The wildly popular Viking Ocean Cruises is preparing to launch their second ship, Viking Sea, hot off the heels of the floating out of their third ship, Viking Sky, at Fincantieri’s Ancona shipyard. Viking Sea is the second of six planned ships for Viking Ocean Cruises.

Viking Ocean Cruises took delivery of Viking Sea at a special delivery ceremony only a few days ago as she departed Fincantieri’s Ancona shipyard. The brand new ship will celebrate her inaugural voyage on April 3rd, as she sails the Mediterranean and Atlantic from Istanbul to London, where she will be christened on May 5th. Following the christening ceremony on The River Thames, Viking Sea, will launch her inaugural season of sailings throughout Scandinavia, the Baltics, and the western and eastern Mediterranean.

“What a remarkable 12 months this has been, launching our first ocean ship, taking delivery of our second ship and preparing for the final outfitting of our third ship. I am proud of everyone at Viking and Fincantieri for their contributions,” said Torstein Hagen, chairman of Viking Cruises. “As we take delivery of Viking Sea we now double Viking’s ocean capacity, which demonstrates how enthusiastic our guests are for destination-focused cruises. We look forward to further increasing our presence next year and the years after that.”

Viking Sea, following in the wake of her sister, offers a unique small ship cruising experience with a number of signature Viking touches, including the Aquavit Terrace, the Wintergarden, a true infinity pool at her stern, and the dedication of a truly outstanding crew. Viking Ocean distinguishes itself from other lines, offering a truly immersive travel experience, bringing guests to the true heart of port cities through education and onshore experiences. Onboard the ships, all guests enjoy veranda style accommodations, complimentary wifi, self service laundry, complimentary shore excursions, and beer and wine with lunch and dinner.
