Back in November the City of Venice, Italy announced that they would ban all large passenger ships from the cities canals. Effective this coming November, any ship over 96,000gt would not be allowed in Venice’s main lagoon.
Today, it was announced that the ban has been pushed back into next year. The restrictions placed on cruise ships will now take effect January 1, 2015.
This actually may not effect the total number of vessel calls to the Italian city on the Adriatic. Authorities are currently working on dredging the Contorta-Sant’Angelo canal so that large ships will have an alternate method of berthing in Venice.
