Trouble on Caribbean Princess & New Spaces For NCL Breakaway

So today we have two news stories packed all into one blog post, so off we go!

Propulsion Trouble on Caribbean Princess.

On Sunday, March 11th the Caribbean Princess departed its home port, San Juan on a 7 night southern Caribbean itinerary. Her arrival into St. Maarten was delayed for several hours due to a propulsion problem and ended up staying in port overnight while trying to fix the problem with the propulsion system.

Last night the captain of the Caribbean Princess sent a letter to all passenger saying, “we will return tonight to San Juan to wait for additional parts and make the necessary repairs. We will arrive [Wednesday] midday in San Juan and all passengers will be able to stay onboard through Sunday and then resume your plans to return home. For those passengers continuing on through March 18 we will provide you with an update late tomorrow as to the full impact on our next voyage.”

Princess has also now said that the current voyage’s passengers will be given  full refunds along with future cruise credits.

MARCH 15TH UPDATE: Princess Cruises has now cancelled Caribbean Princess’ March 18th and March 25th cruises so that the ship can receive the necessary repairs to its propulsion system. Passengers on these two affected sailings will receive a full refund along with a 25% off future cruise credit. The repairs will be completed in time for her April 1st sailing.

It is good that the passengers on the Caribbean Princess can stay on the ship until their cruise is over on Sunday. While it definately is not as good as visiting St Thomas, St Lucia etc, it is much better than the passengers on the Concordia, Allegra, and the ships that ended cruises early due to norovirus.
