Small Fire Breaks Out Onboard Norwegian Getaway At Meyer Werft

A small fire was reported to have broken out on the Norwegian Getaway earlier today while inside her covered construction facility.

Here is the official word from Norwegian Cruise Line regarding the incident:

“Norwegian Cruise Line was notified by Meyer Werft personnel at approximately 2:30 pm (Germany time) today that there was a small fire on Norwegian Getaway. The ship is currently under construction in the covered building dock II at Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany. The yard’s fire brigade, along with members of the Papenburg fire department, responded and have extinguished the fire, which was located on Deck 15 in an aft pool treatment room.

There were no injuries and we anticipate minor damage.  Currently, there are no detailed indications as to the cause of the fire.

We do not expect this to impact the ship’s delivery date which is scheduled for January 2014.  Work is scheduled to resume tomorrow at 12:00 pm.”

The Norwegian Getaway is sister ship to the recently floated out Norwegian Breakaway. She is scheduled to enter service less than one year from now.
