Today, two vastly different cruise ships celebrated two important milestones of their career.
Princess Cruises’ newest and largest ship, the Royal Princess, celebrated her first birthday today while sailing towards her next port of call, Copenhagen. Guests currently sailing aboard the Royal Princess joined in the festivities today, taking part in the Royal Ball Birthday Party, which featured a birthday sing along, a celebratory balloon drop, and an oversized birthday cake.
“Today, we look back with great pride as we celebrate the first birthday of Royal Princess,” said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises president. “She’s been a wonderful addition to our fleet and we’re delighted that she’s been so well received by our guests.” The Royal Princess debuted in Southampton, England one year ago today in a spectacular ceremony highlighted by the christening of the ship by The Duchess of Cambridge. Since her debut, the Royal Princess has sailed 120,000 miles with 150,000 guests aboard 44 cruises, visiting 39 ports in 20 countries throughout the Mediterranean and Caribbean.
Also celebrating today, Celebrity Cruise’s ultra exclusive Celebrity Xpedition marked 10 years of sailing for the line throughout the Galapagos Islands. Specifically built to sail throughout the Galapagos, the Celebrity Xpedition offers a small ship style of cruising with the touches of a modern, contemporary cruise line. The 96 passenger ship sails year round, retracing the journey of Charles Darwin throughout the island chain.
