Royal Caribbean Ship Medevacs Three Guests

According to Cruise Critic board members, Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas performed a medevac of three guests on Tuesday.

The medevacs reportedly took place throughout the day on Tuesday, one occurring while the Freedom of the Seas was anchored at Coco Cay, Royal Caribbean’s private island. The other two medevacs took place after sailing from Coco Cay, rerouting to Nassau, Bahamas.

Cruise Currents reached out to Royal Caribbean for a statement on the situation. A Royal Caribbean spokesperson responded Thursday morning stating that the Freedom of the Seas was required to medevac 3 guests, whose emergencies were unrelated. Due to these delays, the ship was forced to skip a call in St. Thomas, opting for a call in San Juan.

The statement concluded, “We wish our guests a speedy recovery.

This is so important to have insurance. In May we were on the Breakaway out of New York headed to Bermuda. The first night at 2:00 am, I had a fatal arrthmia(and 17 more in total) and by the second night I was airlifted by the Coast Guard to Virginia and had to have a pacemaker/defibrillator implanted and was able to fly home to California by our normal time to leave the ship in New York. This ended up costing a total of $4,000 mainly on the things the insurance did not cover, like luggage fees, taxi rides, meals for my husband, etc. I am on Medicare and all medical was covered 100% and NCL gave us $7,000 out of $9,000 back from the cruise fees. If anyone doesn’t know how it works is they figure out how much your cruise is per night and they charged me for 2 nights and since my husband had to say on the ship until Bermuda they charged him for 4 nights. Didn’t do to bad as far as we are concerned and from Dr. Soto the ship doctor(who stayed with me on ground until they decided what they were going to do to save my life), Lorraine the ship nurse(who refused to leave my side on the ship until they finally made her take a break), Ruthie the ship Concierge and everyone else on NCL, we felt we were treated with the upmost respect and they kept my husband up on everything that was happening to me in Virginia. I can’t imagine how much all of this would of cost if it wasn’t for the insurance which in total for 4 people was less than $1,000. It is so important to have insurance!!!!

I wish these 3 people the best of luck and hopefully they had the insurance and all faired as well as we did with our emergency.
