Speaking to myself and a few other media members this past weekend aboard the Vision of the Seas, Richard Fain addressed concerns and questions over the Allure of the Seas’s recent propulsion issues.
Earlier this month, the Allure of the Seas was reported to be experiencing issues with its propulsion system. The issue is large enough that it has caused the ship to fall behind on its scheduled itinerary. This slow down has caused the ship to alter certain call time in ports throughout its itinerary. When asked, Richard Fain explained that the issue with Allure’s propulsion would have to be fixed in an extended dry dock.
Currently, the Allure of the Seas is expected to undergo required maintenance work in 2015. Richard Fain explained that due to the ship’s current issues, Royal Caribbean is seriously considering moving Allure’s dry dock to 2014. If the dry dock is moved up, workers would be able to make the necessary repairs to Allure’s propulsion system while avoiding an additional dry dock later for the required maintenance.
Allure’s sister ship, Oasis of the Seas, will be undergoing similar routine maintenance in 2014 in the Netherlands, where she will sail a short Mediterranean season prior.
