It is now being reported by passengers who are currently sailing on board the Queen Mary 2 from Australia to Japan, that the ship is experiencing power failures.
Passengers claim that the power has gone out twice in the past few days of this cruise. Cunard released an official statement today regarding the most recent incident…
“After experiencing brief power interruptions, when backup systems immediately kicked in, full power was swiftly restored to Queen Mary 2 on each occasion. Hotel services were restored to the ship within 15 minutes, there was virtually no impact on guests and the ship is continuing on her voyage as normal.”
The Queen Mary 2 has also experienced similar power failures back in October 2011 and February 2012. The Queen Mary 2 also suffered a fire in October 2011, and an explosion in her control room in September 2010. This seems to be a recurring incident on board QM2, but Cunard seems to be confident that she will continue to sail fine.
I will say, this revised version of Cunard’s slogan fits them much better…Cunard ~ Feel Famous (in the dark)

sailed on QM2 Canadian cruise Oct 2011 during Force 11 storm and fire. Staff had both situations under control both by being present everywhere and expressing reassurance of our safety. never felt uneasy except for motion sickness during storm. however, medical staff attended to that condition readily at my request. the staff informs the passengers of the situation and the measures they are taking . have sailed on QM2 many times and through several situations involving passenger illnesses and an overboard suicide and all were handled professionaly. yes, ships like hotels and planes etc will have incidents, but it is how the staff handles the situation that insures the safety of the people.
