Port of Tampa Misstates AIDA Cruises Partnership

Earlier last week, the Port of Tampa announced that AIDA Cruises would begin sailing from the west Florida port beginning in 2014. AIDA Cruises has now announced that the cruise line never had intentions to home port in Tampa, only utilize the port as a day call.

The original press release made by the Port of Tampa stated that AIDA Cruises would begin home porting two ships in Tampa beginning in 2014 through 2016. AIDA Cruises later announced that the port had misunderstood their intentions, claiming that they only intend to call in the port, not embark and disembark passengers as a home port would.

Regardless, due to AIDA’s number of calls in the port alongside the other Tampa based cruise ships, the port is on track to welcome just around 1 million passengers in 2015.
