Norwegian Star Collides With Navy Aircraft Carrier

1:00 am Update: It is now confirmed that the Norwegian Star did not collide with the USS Intrepid, but instead with the dock near the moored USS Intrepid. The Norwegian Star briskly scraped along the dock and sustained only minor damage.

It is now being reported that Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Star has collided with the US Navy Aircraft Carrier, USS Intrepid.

The two ships collided earlier today as the Norwegian Star attempted to dock in New York City. The Norwegian Star was having difficulties docking due to high winds and choppy waters in the harbor. The Star attempted to dock multiple times, but the winds and waves were too powerful and overtook the ship.

There are currently no reports on the damage inflicted to either ships, but it doesn’t seem like the damage is too extensive. I will post any updates when they come in.

On a lighter note, check out NCL’s cool announcement today regarding the new Aqua & Sport Park on board the Norwegian Breakaway.

This morning at Pier 88 in New York City, Norwegian Star docked safely and securely without making contact with any other vessel or pier. The ship was guided by a New York pilot who was on the bridge. In the process of maneuvering to its docking position, the ship experienced strong current conditions. To keep the ship in its correct docking approach under these conditions, propulsion and thrusters were utilized which created a wake in the surrounding waters.
