NewsBrief: Silversea’s New Ship, Norwegian’s New Cabins & Getaway’s Ice Bar

clipperSilversea Acquires New Expedition Ship

Earlier this week, Silversea acquired the former Clipper Odyssey, which marks the eighth ship to enter the Silversea fleet and the third for its expedition fleet. The new ship, to be known as Silver Discoverer, will enter the fleet in March 2014 after a major renovation is completed in her interior areas and cabins. Silversea plans to deploy the new ship in areas including Micronesia, Melanesia, Polynesia, the Russian Far East, Southeast Asia, New Zealand and Australia.  The ship will join expedition ship fleet mates Silver Explorer and Silver Galapagos.

Earlier this week, Norwegian’s Pride of America debuted 32 new and refurbished cabins. 24 new suites were added on deck 13 and feature premium custom furnishings, fabrics, carpets and ultra-luxurious bathrooms. The new suites feature a toned down interior, consisting of many earth tones, compared to the brighter and more vibrant designs found in other cabins onboard. In addition to the new suites, 4 new single cruiser staterooms were added, allowing single cruisers to sail without the burden of a double occupancy fare. 4 new interior staterooms were also added on deck 13. The new staterooms onboard the Pride of America now wrap us a $30 million enhancement project that began earlier this March.

getaway ice barNorwegian Getaway Will Feature Miami Themed Ice Bar

Earlier this week, Norwegian announced that the Norwegian Getaway will feature a Miami themed ice bar. According to Norwegian, “the ship’s ice bar will feature Art Deco-style décor, reminiscent of Miami Beach’s famous Ocean Drive.” The ice bar will also feature South Beach’s iconic Ocean Drive skyline and palm trees etched into the icy walls, a “Welcome to Miami Beach” sign and a life-size alligator throne made entirely of ice. Even drinks served in the ice bar give a nod to the ship’s homeport:

  • Tropicana: SVEDKA citron vodka, triple sec, lemon juice;
  • Carmen Miranda: SVEDKA vodka, peach liquor, orange juice;
  • Sittin’ on the Dock of Biscayne Bay: SVEDKA citron vodka, Inniskillin Icewine, lemon-lime soda;
  • Blue Caribbean: Inniskillin Icewine, SVEDKA vodka, blue curacao, club soda;
  • Key Largo Colada: SVEDKA colada, campari, sweet vermouth, orange syrup.

Entrance to the ice bar costs $20 per person and includes two signature cocktails that will be served in specially-created glasses made entirely of ice.
