Statement from Celebrity Cruises:

Our engineers, along with expert consultants from the motor’s manufacturer, and our Marine Operations team in Miami, have continued working around the clock to resolve the mechanical issue onboard Celebrity Millennium. Together, they have been doing everything they can to fully determine the root cause of the problem.

Regrettably, as of this time, they have been unable to find a satisfactory solution that would enable the ship to continue with its sailing. Unfortunately, because of this, it will be necessary to cancel the remainder of Celebrity Millennium’s sailing.

We are deeply sorry that we were unable to deliver the Celebrity cruise vacation that our guests anticipated. In recognition of the impact that this issue has had on our guests cruise, Celebrity Cruises will provide each guest with a full refund of the cruise fare paid.  Celebrity Cruises would also like to provide our guests with an opportunity to sail with us again.  We will be providing each guest with a future cruise certificate for 100% of the cruise fare paid for your August 16, 2013, Celebrity Millennium sailing.

We are currently in the process of arranging chartered air travel for our guests that will leave directly from Ketchikan, beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, August 21.  In order to assist with all necessary arrangements, 30 members of our company’s guest services team are currently en route to meet the ship. These individuals are trained to provide assistance and support to our guests, and will be available to assist as soon as they arrive onboard.

Sun Princess 8/20 Sailing Cancelled

Princess Cruises has cancelled today’s sailing of the Sun Princess due to a cited power switchboard malfunction. The apparent malfunction prohibited the ship from running all necessary hotel operations. The Sun Princess had just completed a 2 week dry dock and was scheduled to return to service today. Princess stated that they hope to resolve the issue over the next 15 days, before her next sailing on September 3rd. Princess is providing each guest with a full refund, a free future cruise, and will be covering all travel incidentals.

Norwegian Getaway Chartered, Sailings Altered & Cancelled

Due to a full charter of the soon to launch Norwegian Getaway, Norwegian has been forced to alter and cancel multiple sailings. The Norwegian Getaway will be chartered from January 29, 2014 until February 5, 2014. Due to this charter, the Norwegian Getaway’s inaugural crossing from Rotterdam will be shortened by 1 day, the embarkation port will be changed to Southampton, and the sailing will disembark in New York City instead of Miami. The Norwegian Getaway’s inaugural Caribbean sailing on February 8, 2014 has also been cancelled. The Norwegian Getaway’s February 8th sailing has not been cancelled.

For those sailing on the transatlantic crossing, guests who remain on the sailing will receive $100 onboard credit p/s, suites will receive $200 p/s. Guests not wishing to sail on the altered crossing may select another sailing in the fleet and receive $50 onboard credit p/s.

WOW WISH I KNEW ABOUT THIS AWHILE AGO MY BROTHER IS IN THE OLYMPICS I WOULD OF LOOKED INTO IT. PROBABLY MORE THAN I CAN AFFORD THOUGH. THE NORWEGIAN JADE NICE.

You’ll notice that Carnival (Princess) is offering full compensation and Norwegian isn’t offering squat.

It seems the reason Norwegian isn’t offering a full refund is due to the fact that the Getaway is still sailing, albeit an altered itinerary. In the case of Princess, guests cannot sail, which would entitle them to a full refund.

Hello Mike,

Where did you get your information on the cancelling of the February 8 sailing of the Norwegian Getaway? That sailing is still booking for agents through their agent portal and our GDS.

Thank you,
Rachel
