Costa Hires Company To Lift & Transport Costa Concordia
Costa Cruises has announced that they have hired a company to lift and transport the Costa Concordia. A $30 million contract was signed with Royal Boskalis Westminster, a Dutch salvage company, to use the Dockwise Vanguard, a semi-submersible ship, designed to carry other ships. The Dockwise Vanguard will first lift the Costa Concordia from the water and will then transport the ship to an uknown scrapyard in Italy. Costa Cruises has noted that they have not yet chosen a scrapyard, but they expect the scrapping to begin sometime in mid 2014.
Royal Caribbean Offers Two For One For Solo Cruisers
Royal Caribbean has announced that single occupancy cruisers can now earn double points in the Crown & Anchor Society compared to double or more occupancy cruisers. Solo cruisers will be credited 2 points each night sailed in the Crown & Anchor Society, compared to the usual one point. Solo cruisers living the suite life will be credited 3 points.
Costa Diadema Reaches Construction Milestone
Earlier this month, the Costa Diadema reached two important construction milestones. The ship’s distinctive yellow and blue funnel was delivered and installed and the hull section containing the ship’s name was placed. Construction is rapidly moving along onboard the Costa Diadema. She is expected to be completed on time and delivered in October 2014.
