MSC Cruises Suspends All Turkey Visits

Following a horrific terrorist attack in Istanbul, MSC Cruises has opted to cancel all future planned visits to Turkey indefinitely.

The decision comes just over a week after a member of Daesh detonated an explosive device in Istanbul’s historic Sultanahmet Square. The attack killed 10 and injured several locals and tourists.

“The decision will impact MSC Magnifica’s itinerary as she will be based out of Venice, Italy as of March 26,” said a statement released by MSC. “The weekly calls in the cities of Istanbul and Izmir from March 29, 2016 will, for the time being, be replaced by calls in the Greek capital – Athens – and on Mykonos, one of the most popular and glamorous Greek isles. ”

MSC Cruises states the decision came after careful consideration of the current situation in Istanbul and other nearby areas.

A number of other cruise lines have also recently suspended visits to the region, including Disney Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises, and Crystal Cruises.
