Celebrity Cruises has been forced to cancel the June 2nd sailing of the Celebrity Xpedition after a dispute over lobsters resulted in the cruise line losing it’s license to to enter the Galapagos National Park.
The official statement from Celebrity Cruises reads:
“The Galapagos National Park has cited Celebrity Xpedition for transportation and storage of frozen lobster tails in the Galapagos while out of season. Because of this, Celebrity Xpedition’s license that is necessary to enter the Galapagos National Park has been temporarily suspended by the local authority.
While the law allows for a 15 day appeal period before sanctions are imposed, the Park initiated them immediately. Celebrity Cruises will appeal this action with government authorities in Quito, Ecuador. However, we do not expect to have a resolution in time for Celebrity Xpedition’s next sailing, which is scheduled to depart on Sunday, June 2. Unfortunately, it is necessary to cancel the June 2 sailing of Celebrity Xpedition.”
Looking for further clarification on this lobster dispute, I have reached out to Celebrity Cruises for an additional statement. As of publish time, I have yet to receive a response from Celebrity.
