Hurtigruten Cruise Ship Runs Aground

Earlier last night, the Hurtigruten ship Kong Harald, ran aground after hitting a rock in a fjord located in northern Norway.

The Kong Harold was sailing into Trollfjord, when the ship hit a large rock. This collision damaged a ballast tank onboard, which evidently flooded a small area of the ship. Even as the ship took on water, she remained upright and never posed a threat to the guests onboard.

The ship was eventually freed a few hours later after the tide eased her back into the water. The ship then proceeded onto Svolvaer, where the 258 guests onboard will be disembarked and flown home. Hurtigruten has cancelled the remainder of this cruise as the ship will need to enter dry dock for critical repairs.
