In a unexpected move, Royal Caribbean will soon welcome home the former Empress of the Seas as the newest addition to the fleet.
Empress of the Seas, which has been sailing for sister line, Pullmantur, as Empress since 2008, will rejoin the Royal Caribbean fleet in the spring of 2016. Prior to her arrival, she will undergo an extensive renovation to bring her onboard offerings and atmosphere in line with Royal Caribbean.
The news of Empress of the Seas’ rejoining the fleet came earlier last week during Royal Caribbean’s third quarter earnings call, confirmed by Royal Caribbean Ltd.’s Senior Vice President and CFO, Jason Liberty.
No specific details on itineraries or ports have been announced, however, popular speculation suggests the 1,840 passenger ship would fit perfectly on additional sailings to the Bahamas or even Cuba sailings as relations between the US and Cuba continue to thaw.
Empress of the Seas departed the Royal Caribbean fleet in 2008, transferring to Pullmantur. The ship originally joined the Royal Caribbean fleet back in 1990 as Nordic Empress.
