Dining
The Nieuw Amsterdam offers guests a variety of dining options. From traditional dining in one of the ship’s two main restaurants, the Upper & Lower Vista Dining Rooms, or one of the ship’s three alternative restaurants, guests will have no problem finding a favorite dining spot for their sailing.
The Upper & Lower Vista Dining Rooms serve as the ship’s two main restaurants, serving an array of international dishes alongside traditional Dutch and European offerings.
The Pinnacle Grill, Nieuw Amsterdam’s additional charge steakhouse, offers guests the opportunity to dine in true luxury. Offering a menu of premium steaks and northwest seafood, guests will enjoy the opulent offerings of this speciality restaurant. For one night each sailing, the Pinnacle Grill is transformed into Le Cirque, a restaurant inspired by the New York restaurant of the same name. Guests can choose from a variety of popular Le Cirque dishes while dining in a similar atmosphere to that on land. Canaletto, the ship’s additional charge Italian restaurant, serves traditional Italian dishes in a relaxed, family style setting. Guests have the option to order multiple small dishes for their table and share a meal together as they do in Italy. Guests looking for a different style of dining will enjoy Tamarind, Nieuw Amsterdam’s pan Asian restaurant. Guests can indulge in a variety of dishes including sushi, futomaki, soups, and seafood. The experience of Tamarind is completed with the contemporary Asian architecture and the restaurant’s friendly and warm staff.
Guests can also find a number of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and causal snack options in the Nieuw Amsterdam’s relaxed Lido Restaurant. Pastries and coffee are available throughout the day at the Exploration’s Cafe, powered by the New York Time’s.
Editor’s Favorite: Le Cirque continues to impress me each sailing. While the menu could use some freshening up, each dish continues to impress me with the quality, flavor, and freshness of the ingredients. Le Cirque is definitely an experience worth having when sailing aboard a Holland America Line ship.
Entertainment
Holland America Line’s entertainment has made a dramatic shift from the usual production shows to the exciting and exhilarating Dancing with the Stars At Sea performances. Each sailing, guests have the opportunity to compete in Dancing with the Stars At Sea, learn popular dances such as the jive, waltz, and samba; as well as enjoy a Dancing with the Stars performance by the ship’s dance troupe. Guests will also have the opportunity to dance the night away in one of the ship’s many lounges, including Northern Lights, playing the latest hits; big band style music at the Ocean Bar, or relaxing piano music in the Explorer’s Lounge. Guests sailing with food on the mind can also take part in one of the cooking classes at the Culinary Arts Center, presented by Food & Wine Magazine. The Nieuw Amsterdam’s entertainment offerings also include a casino, a piano bar, as well as numerous other bars and lounges throughout the ship.

Thanks for this brief overview. We’ll be sailing on this ship in October and it’s good to read what you think about it. Some of this column, however, sounds like it was lifted word-for-word from HAL promotional material.
