A big step against public smoking has been taken by a small-ship cruise line. Crystal Cruises announced yesterday that beginning in 2014, smoking will be banned from all bars, restaurants, staterooms, and all other public areas. The only exceptions – the Connoisseur Club and a few areas on exterior decks. Here is the word from Crystal via their Twitter account:
Starting w/ 2014’s 1st cruises: Smoking on ships will only B allowed in Connoisseur Club & select outside spaces; all else non-smoking

As it was not originally stated by Crystal, I have reached out to their people to inquire how this new policy will affect “balcony smokers.”
Crystal Cruises seems to only have received positive feedback on the new policy across their social media channels since the announcement was made. Many cruise lines do already have strict smoking policies in place, but Crystal’s new policy, in my opinion, is a step in the right direction for smoking policies onboard cruise ships.
What are your thoughts on cruise line smoking policies?
