2013 was a very formative and important year for Cruise Currents. After making the final transition to the Cruise Currents brand in December 2012, this past year was the first full year writing under the Cruise Currents brand. In addition to reporting cruise industry news, Cruise Currents took on new roles in publishing editorials, helpful guides, and special feature articles. After a full year of hard work, late nights writing articles, and setting sail a few times, Cruise Currents is now being recognized as an cruise industry leader.
4th Most Popular Cruise Website
Cruise Law News, a cruise news and legal commentary website, published a 2013 ranking of the industry’s cruise websites. The rankings were determined using the Alexa traffic ranking system, which is purely based off of the number of visits a website receives. Cruise Currents was ranked the 4th most popular cruise industry website for 2013. Editor of Cruise Law News, Jim Walker, commented on Cruise Currents continuous growth, commenting, “Next year, [Cruise Currents] will pass Cruise Mates and me as the most popular cruise site behind Cruise Critic.”

Top Cruise Blog of 2013
Cruise Fever, a cruise news and resource website, recently held their reader selected 2013 Cruise Awards. The awards featured a number of categories, including best new ship, best cruise line for families, and so on. Voting took place over a number of weeks and was open to the readers of Cruise Fever. After the voting had closed, Cruise Currents was voted “Top Cruise Blog 2013” by the readers of Cruise Fever. Cruise Fever commented on the leadership of Cruise Currents, Mike Faust, “Although being one of the youngest figures in the cruise industry, his research and knowledge of the cruise lines/ships makes him a respected writer among his peers.” Cruise Currents took the top spot over runner ups Cruise Mates and John Heald’s Blog.
Favorite Cruise Blogger of 2013
In the second annual Birdie awards hosted by the Cruise Chat Twitter community, Editor of Cruise Currents, Mike Faust was voted the community’s favorite cruise blogger of 2013. Voting for the awards took place over a period of two weeks and allowed members of the Cruise Chat community to vote on their favorite ships, cruise lines, websites, and writers for 2013. Mike joined such industry leaders as Ken Muskat and Cruise Critic in this year’s winner’s circle.
Top Travel Blogger Website of 2013
Earlier this year, the New York Travel Writer’s Society selected Cruise Currents as the “Top Travel Blogger Website of 2013.” Members of the society submitted nominees over a multi-week period and the winners for each category were selected by the society’s leading members and leadership. Cruise Currents was honored among other travel industry leader’s such as Holland America Line, Travel with Rick Steves, and United Airline’s Hemispheres magazine.
