Earlier this week, Costa’s Costa Deliziosa, which is currently sailing a 100 day around the world cruise, rescued 8 sailors from a sinking yacht in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
The Costa Deliziosa, which was sailing towards Antigua at the time, received a call from the Portugal Coast Guard requesting their assistance in aiding a sinking yacht, which had struck an unidentified object in the water. The Costa Deliziosa quickly changed course and sailed 170 miles to the southeast towards the yacht, the Buccanier.
Once the Costa Deliziosa arrived on the scene, the sailors guided their life raft towards the ship and crew members quickly transferred the sailors from the life raft aboard the ship. Once the 8 sailors were aboard the Costa Deliziosa, they received a medical examination, food, and water. The rescue operation was a success, despite reported 10 foot waves. All 8 sailors are reported to be in good condition.
After the rescue operation had concluded, the Costa Deliziosa resumed sailing towards Antigua.
