The Celebrity Millennium is currently experiencing a mechanical problem with one of its propulsion units. In a statement sent to Cruise Currents by Celebrity Cruises, the mechanical problem and its expected impact is further explained:
“Due to a mechanical problem in one of Celebrity Millennium’s two propulsion units, the ship returned to Ketchikan last night. The ship is capable of sailing without the affected unit; however, in an abundance of caution, the Captain decided the safer and more prudent action was to return to port to evaluate of the issue. The safety of our guests and crew is always our highest priority.
While in Ketchikan, our technical teams will make a full inspection of the unit, and assess the need for any necessary repairs. Unfortunately, the ship’s scheduled visit to Icy Strait Point for today will not be possible. We sincerely apologize for this unexpected change to our guests’ vacation, and will share additional updates as soon as they become available.
Celebrity Millenniumâs seven-night Alaska sailing departed Vancouver, British Columbia, on Friday, August 16.  The sailing includes port calls to Ketchikan, Juneau, and Skagway, Alaska, before concluding in Seward, Alaska, on Friday, August 23.”
An update on the ship and sailing’s status is expected later this afternoon.
