(4:20 pm) Celebrity Cruise’s oldest ship, the Celebrity Century, will exit the fleet in 2015.
After leaving the Celebrity fleet in 2015, the ship will go on to sail for Croisieres De France, a subsidiary of Pullmantur Cruises, which is a subsidiary of Royal Caribbean International Ltd. Croisieres De France is a small cruise line catering to the French cruise market. At Croisieres De France, the Celebrity Century will join former fleet mate, Zenith, in sailing for the French cruise line.
The news of the sale of the Celebrity Century was confirmed by the cruise line on a French news website.
Cruise Currents has reached out to Celebrity Cruises for an official statement from the line. At the time of publication, Celebrity has not yet responded.
At this time, the date of Celebrity Century’s exit from the fleet is not known.
The Celebrity Century debuted with Celebrity Cruises in 1995. She was the lead ship in the Century class of ships and currently shares a co-flagship status with fleet mates Celebrity Constellation and Celebrity Solstice.
5:45 pm Update: In a statement sent to Cruise Currents, Celebrity states: “As of now, no decision has been made [in regards to the Celebrity Century leaving the fleet]. If that should change, we will make an announcement at the appropriate time.”
At this moment, it is unclear why Croisieres De France has announced the transfer of the Celebrity Century to their fleet. Cruise Currents has reached out to CDF to clarify their apparent miscommunication.
