After weeks of speculation and rumors, Carnival Cruise Line today confirmed their return to the Port of Mobile, Alabama in November 2016.
Beginning in the fall of 2016, Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Fantasy will begin sailing four and five night sailings to Mexico over an entire year. Each four night sailing will offer a port call in Cozumel while the longer, five night sailing will offer port calls in Cozumel and Costa Maya or Progreso. The return of a Carnival ship to Mobile offers an additional embarkation port for those sailing from the southern United States and fills the gap left by the departure of the Carnival Elation in late 2011.
“Carnival Fantasy’s four- and five-day cruises from Mobile provide consumers with an affordable way to visit stunning Mexican ports from a convenient homeport while offering our valued travel agent partners an exciting new short vacation option to market to their clients,” said Christine Duffy, Carnival’s president. “We’ve been working very closely with the port and city officials to make these cruises a reality and wish to thank Mayor Stimpson and his team for not only all their hard work but also for creating a welcoming and positive environment that makes these cruises an attractive option for today’s consumers,” she said.
Prior to her arrival in Mobile, the Carnival Fantasy will undergo a multi million dollar renovation, enhancing the onboard experience with the addition of a number of Fun Ship 2.0 features and amenities. Included in the renovation will be the addition of Guy’s Burger Joint, the Blue Iguana Cantina, Red Frog Rum Bar, and the Blue Iguana Tequila Bar.
The Carnival Fantasy is one of 24 ships in the Carnival fleet, entering service for the line in 1990.
