Azamara Journey Safely Outruns Pirate Attack

Thanks to the courageous and swift actions of Captain Karlsson and the crew of the Azamara Journey, the Journey was successfully able to ward off a potential pirate attack while sailing off the coast of Oman.

The crew of the Azamara reported that a group of small boats was quickly approaching the Journey. When Captain Karlsson learned of the suspicious group of boats, following safety procedures, he immediately took “evasive maneuvers” that helped the ship outrun the suspected pirate ships. During the incident, passengers were asked to stay off the exterior decks, remain inside, and move towards the center of the ship for their own safety. Thankfully, the suspected pirate boats turned away 15 minutes later, and the Journey was able to return to its normal sailing.

A representative for Royal Caribbean Ltd. (the parent company of Azamara) did confirm that Azamara ships take extra precautions and additional safety preparations when sailing near the Gulf of Aden.

Thankfully no one was injured during this slight delay in the Journey’s itinerary. The Journey will arrive in Mumbai on Wednesday, on time.
