Approximately 60 Crew Members Infected With Measles Aboard Costa Pacifica

Italian news sources are reporting an outbreak of the measles virus aboard Costa Cruise’s Costa Pacifica, likely infecting approximately 50 – 60 crew members.

According to Costa Cruises, the infected crew members were disembarked during the last call in Civitavecchia, Italy to receive medical treatment ashore. Replacement crew members were brought aboard the ship until the former crew members fully recover.

Costa confirms no guests aboard the ship have been infected nor have any reported symptoms linked to measles. The guests aboard the Costa Pacifica have been notified of the outbreak among the crew and reports claim additional doctors have been brought aboard the ship should they be required to attend to guests.

At the current time, no source of the virus has been determined.

The Costa Pacifica is currently sailing as scheduled, calling at La Spezia, Italy earlier today.
